In the contemporary human narrative, “progress” is treated as a promise: we believe we are moving toward a future that is freer and more controllable. Yet the closer we come to the so-called emancipation, the more clearly we feel that something still remains lodged in the depths of the heart—holding us back. It may not be external restraints, but rather a weight that grows between mind and body: anxiety, instinct, vulnerability, and the impulse to change oneself while also fearing the cost.
The work depicts the “inner monster” as an echo. It is not a single fear, but a form shaped by contradictions existing at the same time. The more we try to suppress it, the more its outline emerges; the more we attempt to understand ourselves, the more we realize that reason may not be able to fully govern us. Repeated lines and dense textures gradually weave the monster layer by layer—each stroke feels like it is answering the same question: is freedom something we reach, or is it a condition that is never entirely complete, yet still drives people to choose and to transcend?
If human beings can be remade, will limitations disappear—or will they simply be replaced and rearranged in new forms? Therefore, the work does not conclude with the “eradication” of the monster. Instead, it focuses on whether we can learn to coexist with the shadows within ourselves; to acknowledge the coexistence of power and loss of control, of ideals and the weight of material life. The monster does not replace humanity—it is the embodiment of humanity’s inner contradictions.
